my god we're nearly 31 years from when this all happened. 31 years and it still hurts, i still makes tears come to my eyes watching this. i remember when we found out davey died. we'd been out doing something and got home. dad turned news no while mom got supper, and i went to my room like normal.......... well that was the last normal moement of that day. i'd no sooner got in there and dad hollerred bill get out here. i'm thinking what the .......? we just got home i wasn't in trouble when we left, i didn't do anything to get in trouble while we were gone, and i'v've not been home long enough to get in trouble yet....... dad said i said get out here. and they were talking about daveys crash and it not looking good. and i thought when does this nightmare end. i'll be honest i wasn't a alan fan. ok shoot me and get over it. but as i found out stuf, learned about him, etc. i was starting to come around. you just can't not help admire a guy that goes through life with a dream and won't stop till he gets it. i was however a huge davey fan. to back up a minute, i'd been a nascar fan off and on all my life. and racing in general. at this point was getting back into nascar and learning about the busch series. davey was probably the first "nup and comer" i'd really followed. i'd liked cale, i kind of liked bobby, but davey was probably the first "young gun" i'd been like he's my guy for the future.cale was near end of his career, bobby soons would be unfortunately, davey was a rookie replacing cale. back to 93 i'm nearly in tears and thinking when do i get ot wake up from this? this can't be real? this can't be happening again? looking back nearly 31 years later it still doesn't hurt any less. i never got a chance to meet davey, though almost (i think) got a chance to meet bobby in 94 by accident (assuming it was him if you want that story ask) adn would meet bobby the year he went in the hof. i never really thought about if i even remembered watching this in 93 and saw neils comments. when your friend commits suicide, and you hae to go to school the next day and wish you were any where else you dont' ask your parents if you can take the day off you go to school. (been there done that). when you've got a funeral to go to and a short window to do everything because of work schedules, meaning up one day, funeral next come home the 3rd day een though u gotta cover 1400 miles in those 3 days.......... you do it. (unforunately been there doen that too.) when you say you're going to be somehwere yo do it. it's not easy, it's not fun, and yeah if people knew what was going on nobody would blame you for calling out, but you do it. kids today would learna good lesson hearing that speech from and bobby. i assume i did then, i relearned it now............. rip davey hope i get to see you some day.

Just watching these old races gives me such a feeling of nostalgia. I grew up in 80s & 90s in rural North Carolina as a kid watching and listening to races on the satelite and MRN radio. I was lucky enough to get to go to races at Charlotte, Bristol, North Wilkesboro, Martinsville, Richmond, & Rockingham, as well as getting to meet and get Autographs from most, if not all of the Greatest Names in Racing. Guys like Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Davey Allison, Neil Bonnett, Junior Johnson, Alan Kulwicki, Jack Roush, Robert Yates, Ernie Irvan, Jeff Gordon, Rusty Wallace, Dick Trickle, Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott and so many others. This time in NASCAR will always be the greatest to me. I am still a fan today, but it isn’t close in comparison IMHO.

NASCAR, a truly American sport. They shouldn't try to be like F1. Indycar just vetoed medallions. How are you going to find the next great team owner and driver? No team should be guaranteed a spot in any race. Best qualifiers should be the only ones in the race. What they have now is like communism.

Dick Trickle and his inside joke "everybody is smokin' at Bristol. It was at Bristol where I first saw him smoking cigarettes during the cautiouns. He was a driver that started late and never got a good ride. He could have won a lot of races with a top shelf racecar

Early in this race, BP calls Lake Speed in the #28 Davey Allison by accident and apologizes moments later and says "Everytime I see that 28 car I think of Davey" and Bob Jenkins chimes in and says "I am sure many people wish it still were Davey Allison".

So disappointing the way Irvan treated his team that night. Crashed on purpose in qualifying and then purposefully wrecked his backup car in the race just to force Larry McClure to let him out of his contract so he could go drive the 28 car. Crew worked their butts off to get a back up car ready for him and he wrecked it for no reason. So disrespectful and unappreciative of his team. Was very, very hard to have any respect at all for Irvan after this race. Glad he eventually showed some remorse but it was still disappointing. Also never had a shred of respect for Robert Yates after this. Going after a driver who is under contract is just wrong.
